Want the chance to get behind the scenes at CFT? Each Festival Season we offer up to 30 young people a place on our Young Commissioning Circle (YCC). As part of the YCC, you will follow one production, receiving a copy of the rehearsal script and getting to meet with the director for a Q&A. You will be invited to observe a technical and dress rehearsal and then receive two complimentary tickets to the show and the chance to meet the cast at a special Supporters Night. If you want to learn more about how a professional theatre production comes together, the YCC is for you.
I had experience as an actor and always thought that’s what my interest was. However, the YCC has inspired me to look at other creative paths and I’ve started to write a play - thank you so much for helping me discover a new loveOlivia, YCC member 2019
My time in the YCC for Hedda Tesman gave me an insight into the huge amount of work that goes into each and every performance. The opportunity to meet with the director, Holly Race Roughan, and watch her work was fascinating. Everyone involved with the YCC was incredible, I would like to thank them all for their kindness and positivityEleanor, YCC member 2019
I came away from the experience learning about how much goes into making a play happen and I’m grateful for the opportunity to meet CFT’s Commissioning Circle members and talk to them about why they love theatreRohan, YCC member 2018
How do I apply?
It doesn't matter whether you are at the beginning of your theatre-loving journey, or are already an avid theatre-goer. The only thing we ask is that you are aged 16-30 and live within a reasonable distance of CFT due to the time commitments.
All you have to do is complete the short application form at the bottom of this page, explaining why you’d like to join the YCC and what you hope to gain from the experience. Additional support will be offered to those who need it in order to complete their application.
What is the time commitment?
There are four key events connected to a production, as well as a couple of group meet-ups throughout the Festival:
- The Director’s Briefing – this takes place in our rehearsal room usually in the late afternoon on a weekday.
- The Technical Rehearsal – these usually take place on a weekday afternoon.
- The Dress Rehearsal – these usually take place on weekday afternoons and sometimes Saturday mornings.
- The Supporters Night – this takes place during the show’s run and you will receive complimentary tickets to see the production and a post-show reception with the cast.
Take a look at the the leaflet below for dates required for each circle before choosing your top two.
As there are several late nights, please consider how you will manage travel arrangements if you do not live locally.
