Chichester Festival Youth Theatre

Our award-winning Chichester Festival Youth Theatre (CFYT) engages over 800 young people each week through workshops at CFT and at our 9 satellite locations across West Sussex. We aim to help young people of all abilities from a variety of backgrounds to develop their artistic, personal and social skills.

2015 marked the 30th anniversary of CFYT. It was a particularly exciting year for the youth theatre as they received their first review from a national critic, for their summer promenade production of Michael Morpurgo's Running Wild. As a result of the hard work of the CFYT company, Regent's Park Open Air Theatre redeveloped the production for its professional premiere in May 2016 and UK tour from February 2017. Dale Rooks, CFT’s Education and Youth Theatre Director, joined with Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s Artistic Director, Timothy Sheader, to direct the co-production.

Since it was founded in 1985, the Youth Theatre has staged over 80 productions, and in recent years the Christmas production in the Festival Theatre has become a highlight of the season. All Youth Theatre members are invited to audition for CFYT productions, which are enjoyed by tens of thousands of audience members each year, giving members the experience of performing in a professional standard production.

Membership is £60 per term but bursaries are available. Please email cfyt@cft.org.uk or contact the LEAP team on 01243 784437 for more information.
