Gobblefunk is the whimsical, made-up language spoken by the BFG in Roald Dahl’s classic book. We’ve picked out some of our favourite words (and shared what they mean below) but do let us know yours!

Snozzcumber
A knobbly vegetable like an enormous cucumber which grows in Giant Country. Snozzcumbers taste disgusting but they are all the BFG has to eat, as he refuses to hunt human beans like other giants.
Frobscottle
A green fizzy drink that giants drink instead of water. The bubbles in frobscottle sink down rather than rise up, so if you drink a lot of it, you will soon be…
Whizzpopping
What happens when air comes out of your bottom with a popping sound! More socially acceptable than burping and a sign of tremendous happiness (according to giants).

Phizz-whizzing
Excellent or splendid. Take care not to confuse phizz-whizzing with whizzpopping or you’ll be…
Biffsquiggled
Confused or puzzled. You feel as if your brain is reeling from a punch and is as muddled as a squiggly piece of doodling.
Trogglehumper
One of the very worst nightmares you can have. It is the opposite of a golden phizzwizard - the best, most wonderful, and happy dream a person can have.

Scrumdiddlyumptious
Utterly delicious food! You can also say delumptious or glummy.
Zozimus
Zozimus is what dreams are made of. The BFG whisks zozimus with an egg-beater until it forms bubbles just like soapy water.
Wondercrump
Wonderful or splendiferous; you can also say phizz-whizzing or whoopsy-whiffling.
