Being Mr Wickham
Tue 20 - Sat 24 Jan
Following Emma, we continue our celebrations of Jane Austen’s 250th anniversary as Adrian Lukis, famed for his role in the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice, returns as the charmingly roguish Mr Wickham. On the eve of his sixtieth birthday, Wickham reflects on what really happened in the thirty years since we last saw him…
Adrian Lukis told us more about the origins of the play: 'I wrote the play when I turned 60 and I thought “oh God” as everything starts groaning, your knees, your feet. I’d had this idea of exploring something to do with Wickham. He was a cad, someone who relies on his looks, his charm and his personality to make his way in the world and he’s played those cards. Where would he have ended up? What happens to rakes when they can’t rake anymore?'
