1968: The Tempest

The 1968 season saw CFT's first and only staging of Shakespeare's The Tempest, with Artistic Director John Clements as Prospero alongside a young Simon Ward as Ferdinand. The set was designed by pioneering stage designer Ralph Koltai, with sweeping shades of white and abstract block shapes typical of Koltai's style during this period. The model box for the production is one of the few in existence from CFT's history, lovingly preserved at Pallant House Gallery. Explore a new 3D rendered version below.
