Musical Theatre Summer Intensive
Inspired by Spring Awakening
29 Jul - 17 AugAbout Musical Theatre Summer Intensive
Our three-week summer intensive for 2024 takes its inspiration from the coming-of-age musical Spring Awakening. It's a great creative opportunity for anyone aged 16-25 to work with a professional director and musical director who loves exploring musical theatre, or is thinking of auditioning for drama school.
Spring Awakening, the ground-breaking play by Frank Wedekind and subsequent Broadway smash-hit, navigates teenage self-discovery in a celebration of youth and rebellion. You’ll work closely as an ensemble, learning unforgettable songs, fast-paced choreography and devising a world based on the original story.
The intensive will be directed by Matt Hawksworth, with musical direction from Jody Robinson.
How do I apply?
To register your interest please fill in this form here.
Participants must be available for the duration of this project. This opportunity is open to anyone aged 16-25. If you’re new to us here at the theatre, we’d love to hear from you.
If you would like to take part this summer, we need to see a short self-tape of you acting and singing. Once you've filled in the form, we'll get in touch to give you more advice on how to film the self-tape.
The dates of the intensive are:
29 Jul - 17 Aug
10am-5pm (w/c 29 Jul & w/c 5 Aug: Mon to Fri)
10am to late (w/c 12 Aug: Mon to Sat)
Please note that the course fee will be £450.
We never want cost to be a barrier for anyone who wants to attend, so please indicate in your application form if you would require a bursary. If you'd like to find out more about our bursary scheme, get in touch with us at [email protected].
Please note: Sessions will feature adult content and strong language. The themes represented in Spring Awakening include adolescent mental health, sexuality, challenging interpersonal and family relationships, and navigating abusive situations. Together with the creative team, when exploring the original source material we will create an open and safe space. Discussion is always welcome and the company will decide how these themes are explored in the studio.
