FAQs: Socially Distanced Performances at CFT

Please note these measures are all subject to government guidance and therefore may change. For the most up to date information, please check back here closer to the date of your booking.

How many audience members are you allowing into the building?  Under the social distancing guidelines, we have created a reduced capacity seating plan that allows for all audience members in the Festival Theatre to be seated at least one metre distance from any other household or support bubble.

What measures are you putting in place to ensure the audience will be safe? We will follow government guidance at all times:

  • Audience members should maintain a 2m distance where possible (and no less than 1m distance) from other households and support bubbles at all times inside the venue. Signage and distancing markers will be in place.
  • Multiple hand sanitiser stations will be in place around the foyer and enhanced cleaning processes are in place throughout the building.
  • We ask that all audience members wear a face covering unless they are exempt under the government guidance (see below).
  • All staff and audience members will have their temperature checked upon arrival. If you register a temperature of 37.8C or higher, you and your household or support bubble will not be allowed into the building. This temperature data is not retained in any way.

We ask that you do not attend if:

  • You have experienced any symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 14 days
  • You have been in close proximity to anyone who has experienced symptoms in the last 14 days
  • You have been instructed to self-isolate under the current rules.

Clinically vulnerable individuals or members of a household who are shielding extremely vulnerable individuals are advised not to attend.

Will I need to wear a face mask? Yes, these are mandatory throughout the venue in line with government guidelines which state that where social distancing is reduced to between 1 and 2 metres indoors, additional mitigations should be in place.

You will not be required to wear a face covering if: you have a physical or mental illness or impairment, or a disability that means you cannot put on, wear or remove a face covering; or putting on, wearing or removing a face covering would cause you severe distress.  If this applies to you or a member of your party, you can let us know in advance or bring an exemption card with you to help our staff on arrival who may be under instructions to challenge all audience members entering the building without a face covering.

How do the distanced seating groups work? Can I book for my friends? Tickets are available in fixed group sizes where parties of between 1 and 6 are seated together, and each group is distanced from others in the auditorium (by at least 1 metre on all sides) in line with government guidance. All tickets within a group must be purchased by one booker, and must only consist of one household or support bubble.

Please select seats based on the number of people in your household or support bubble; if you choose a seating group with more seats than you intend to purchase, you will not be able to complete your transaction. If a group is not available for your household size, unfortunately you will be unable to purchase tickets for this event.

Those on stage will also be distanced from audience members and each other in line with government guidance.

Will you be issuing physical tickets? Do I need to print my e-tickets and bring paper copies? In order to make the process COVID-safe, we are moving to e-tickets which can be scanned on arrival at the Theatre on your mobile phone or tablet. Scanners will be held by our staff from a distance when you enter the auditorium. If you would prefer to print a paper copy of your tickets, these can also be scanned.

Have you trialled these measures to ensure they work? On Friday 4 September, we held a Test Event with staff and invited guests listening to a talk with our Artistic and Executive Directors, Daniel Evans and Kathy Bourne. This evening was an important chance for us to trial the new safety measures on arrival and the audience journey around the building to ensure it all ran smoothly. These guests also tested our socially distanced seating plan and the user booking experience online, which we felt were vital aspects to test before opening up booking to our wider audience.

What will happen when I arrive at the Theatre? In order to assist with social distancing, we will be staggering audience arrival times so please check your arrival slot on your pre-show email. When you arrive, a member of staff will take your temperature and ask you to put on a mask before entering the building if you are not already wearing one. When inside, you will see signage in place for a one-way system and hand sanitising stations which we encourage you to use as you move around the building. You may wish to use the toilets before entering the auditorium through the door indicated on your e-ticket. Your e-ticket will be scanned by a member of staff and you will be directed to your seat. We ask that you maintain a 2 metre distance where possible from other audience members while moving to your seat.

Will the toilets be open for use? Yes. However, there is restricted capacity so please follow signage or speak to a member of staff. Accessible toilet facilities remain in the same place as before. Enhanced cleaning processes are in place throughout the building.

What if I need to use the facilities during the event? Will I be able to exit my seat? Please maintain a distance of 2 metres where possible around the venue. Whilst the capacity in the auditorium has been greatly reduced, you may need to pass someone to take or leave your seat. Please mitigate any risk by keeping your mask on and turning away as you pass. We ask that all audience members are mindful of others around them who may need to leave during the event.

I have access requirements and/or am in a wheelchair, will the lift be in operation? Yes, the lifts will be in operation. A member of staff will be at the bottom of the lift to check tickets but will not ride in the lift. Only groups in the same household or bubble will be able to travel in the lift together. The lifts will be cleaned between uses.

How will exiting the venue work? In order to maintain social distancing after the event, our Front of House staff will instruct audience members to leave a row at a time through different exits. We ask that you please be patient and wait until invited to leave your seat before doing so. Please allow those at the end of your row to exit first.

How do you use the data I provide for Test and Trace? We are legally required to collect contact information about each ticket booker in line with our Privacy Policy. We may need to share your contact details with NHS Test and Trace, if they require. All information collected for Test and Trace will remain securely on our ticketing system, and will not be used once 21 days have elapsed after the last event you have booked. If you do not wish to share this information please email data@cft.org.uk stating you wish to opt-out and quoting your order number.

Can I still buy an ice cream? Programmes and ice creams can be pre-ordered when booking your tickets where available, or purchased on the day. Please note all transactions will be cashless.
