Overview

This Christmas Chichester Festival Youth Theatre are pleased to present a Relaxed Performance of Beauty and the Beast on Sunday 31 December at 11am.

A cursed prince sits alone in an enchanted castle, destined to remain in monstrous form until he can learn to love and be loved in return. But who could ever love a Beast?

The award-winning Chichester Festival Youth Theatre present a brand new adaptation of the much loved classic in this year’s eagerly awaited Christmas production. Prejudice, jealousy, compassion and love are woven through this magical story, studded with enchanting and deliciously scary characters.

This relaxed performance welcomes individuals, groups and families with children on the autistic spectrum, sensory and communication disorders, a learning disability or anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed theatre environment.

The performance and theatre will be adapted in a variety of ways to create a welcoming, less formal environment:

  • Audience members are able to leave and return to the auditorium during the performance
  • A chill-out area will be available for the duration of the performance
  • The auditorium lights will be adjusted for comfort
  • A relaxed attitude to noise during the performance
  • The show’s lighting and sound levels will be adjusted

To book tickets please call the Box Office on 01243 781312 or email box.office@cft.org.uk

If you have any questions about the performance please contact the House Manager on 01243 812927 or email access@cft.org.uk

Audience response from Fiddler on the Roof Relaxed Performance 2017

I have been to relaxed performances at other theatres in the past but never have I been made to feel so welcome. A wonderful, inclusive event.

Before the show when one of the actors explained what was going to happen and what might be scary, this helped my son so much to prepare himself and to understand no one was in danger. He loves theatre but gets distressed during the performance due to not knowing what's going to happen. We have been a number of times before to different shows and after Peter Pan he said "that's the first time I don't have tummy ache after a show."

Audience response from Peter Pan Relaxed Performance 2016

Our seats were excellent. We loved the enthusiasm of the young performers. My young grandson, who has Down's Syndrome, was entranced and followed the whole performance.

We thought that all the staff were very accommodating, kind and quick to react and help, especially as one young person in our group experienced a nose bleed during the performance.
