Overview

Chichester Festival Theatre will present a day of outdoor performances on Monday 31 August.

Join us as Hugh Bonneville headlines Family Fun in the Park live on stage, reading Judith Kerr’s The Tiger Who Came to Tea and Mog the Forgetful Cat, with actors using puppetry to bring the stories to life. Then get on your dancing shoes and take part in our Family ‘Dance-Along’ (no experience necessary).

Hugh Bonneville has given acclaimed performances at the Festival Theatre in Shadowlands (2019) and An Enemy of the People (2016). His many television and film appearances include Downton Abbey, W1A and the Paddington films.

FAQs

Family Fun and Concert in the Park: FAQs

How does ticketing work for these events and how are you going to ensure social distancing for audience members?
In order to comply with social distancing guidelines, we have mapped out a plan of small, medium and large plots to allow audience members to book with varying household sizes.

Small plots (1x2m) are for up to 2 people, medium plots (2x2m) are for up to 4 people and large plots (2x3m) are for up to 6 people. These plots will allow enough space for those within your household to sit either on the ground or on picnic chairs. If you would like more space to spread out, you are welcome to buy a larger plot to use for fewer people. Please note the maximum number of people for each plot must be adhered to.

For Family in the Park pricing is as follows:
Small Plot (for up to 2 people) - £10
Medium Plot (for up to 4 people) - £20
Large Plot (for up to 6 people) - £30

For Concert in the Park pricing is as follows:
Small Plot (up to 2 people) - £40
Medium Plot (up to 4 people) - £80
Large Plot (up to 6 people) - £120

You will be required to confirm the number of people in your plot at the time of booking, due to licensing and Covid-19 regulations. Only the declared number of people will be admitted and your party will be required to arrive together; if more than the number of people you have declared in your booking turn up for each plot, they will be turned away.

Please bear in mind social distancing recommendations which currently state that only members of a single household or bubble can sit in close proximity to each other.

There will 2metre-wide walkways between each plot so that, even for those at the edge of the plot, you will still have sufficient distance between your group and the next household.

Tickets will be emailed out one week prior to the event, along with full joining instructions.

Please note: we will collect contact information about each ticket booker in line with our Privacy Policy. We may need to share your contact details with NHS Test and Trace, if they require.

I didn’t use up the maximum capacity of my plot on my original booking, can I add people later?
Unfortunately, no. We are working to a strict maximum capacity to adhere with licensing regulations so you are unable to add people at a later date.

Can I book on the day?
All tickets must be bought online in advance, and we will be operating a paperless ticketing system. We will not have a Box Office on site on the day.

Will I have a specific numbered plot reserved for me?
The plots will not be reserved; we will ensure there are enough plots of each size for everyone who has booked and you will be shown to the next available plot on arrival. Please ensure your full party arrive together.

Will there be seating or picnic rugs provided? Are we allowed to stand?
There will be no seating provided but you are welcome to bring your own picnic rug, or picnic chairs if you don’t wish to sit on the ground. We will have large screens either side of the stage to enhance the view. We do ask that you are considerate of your fellow audience members in your choice of seating and that you remain seated during the events unless you need to exit for any reason or to use the facilities. Sun loungers and shooting sticks are not permitted.

How long will the events be and will there be an interval?
Family Fun will last approximately one hour without an interval, and the evening Concert will be approximately 1 hour 30 minutes without an interval.

Can I arrive early?
Yes, do arrive early to enjoy your picnic. The site will be open from 10am for the Family Fun event which starts at 11am, and from 4.30pm for the Concert which starts at 6pm.

Is there an age limit for children?
The age guidance for the Family Fun session is 4+. It will be a full hour of readings, so parents should bear attention and concentration spans in mind. In order to maintain social distancing, we ask that parents ensure that their children remain within their plot at all times.

Why isn’t there priority booking for Friends?
Given the time-scale and wider circumstances of this unique event, we regret we aren’t able to offer any priority booking on this occasion.

Will food and drink be available? Can we bring our own?
Food and drink will be available to buy on the day but please note we can only accept contactless payment.

You are welcome to bring your own picnic but barbecues are not permitted. Please be considerate of other groups around you and please remember to take all litter with you when you leave.

Will toilet facilities be available?
The Festival Theatre toilet facilities will be open and regularly cleaned by our on-site team. We will have a queueing system in place to conform to social distancing.

Will staff be on hand to manage the event and will they be wearing PPE?
Yes, CFT staff will be on hand throughout and kitted up according to the prevailing government guidelines.

Photography and filming by CFT
These events will be filmed and photographed for CFT’s archive, publicity or marketing purposes. Images and film may also be shared with and used by organisations to report on activity they have supported (for example funders or sponsors), or by organisations that promote Chichester Festival Theatre as a world-class attraction. By purchasing tickets to these events, you are giving your consent to being filmed and photographed. If you do not wish to appear in any images or film, please speak to a member of staff.

What happens if it rains? Can I get a refund?
We'll go ahead in most weather, including rainfall, and will never cancel a show before the advertised start time - it's amazing how often it can rain all day and then clear up just in time for the action to start! In the unlikely event that we have to cancel, your tickets will be refunded.

Can I bring a dog?
Not unless they are a registered assistance dog; please bring recognised documentation.

Are the events wheelchair accessible?
Yes, there will be wheelchair spaces available in each plot size.

Will I be refunded if the event is cancelled due to a change in government guidelines?
In the event of a cancellation by us, we offer a 100% money back guarantee on tickets.

Please note if booking through CFT, you can also purchase refund protection from Booking Protect so that you can apply for a refund on your ticket should your entire party be unable to attend the show due to adverse weather, injury, illness, burglary or fire at your residence, breakdown or relocation for work. Click here to read Booking Protect Terms and Conditions.
