If you saw our double bill of Shakespeare comedies recently, you might recognise some of the frozen scenes in the video below. The cast of Love's Labour's Lost and Much Ado About Nothing took on the latest internet craze, the Mannequin Challenge, during rehearsals ahead of their transfer to the Theatre Royal Haymarket. It may all look like fun and games but this particular challenge is destined to help a lot of people. This cast have decided to raise money from their challenge for the charity Help Refugees UK and have initiated #TheatreMannequinChallenge.
Help Refugees UK is a grassroots humanitarian organisation and registered charity initially formed in 2015. After just one month Help Refugees was the number one provider of aid to the unofficial refugee camps in Calais and Dunkirk. It is nowthe largest distributor of aid among all grassroots organisation in Europe, funding 65 projects including projects in 22 camps in Greece as well as camps and settlements in Paris,Turkey, Syria and Lebanon.
By using the hashtag #TheatreMannequinChallenge the company are hoping to get other theatre companies involved, taking up the challenge and sharing their own videos, spreading the word and helping to support the charity.
