His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh

We are deeply saddened by the passing of His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Philip visited the Theatre on 31 July 1962 during its inaugural Festival season, when he and Her Majesty The Queen attended a charity performance of Uncle Vanya directed by Sir Laurence Olivier, the Theatre’s first Artistic Director. He and the Queen returned in 1964 for a performance of Othello with Laurence Olivier and Maggie Smith.

The photos below show His Royal Highness with HM The Queen at Uncle Vanya.
