Explore Archives Week 19 - 27 November

From Saturday 19 to Sunday 27 November, Chichester Festival Theatre is taking part in Explore Your Archive week. Following an extensive heritage community project (Funded by the HLF 2013-2016), the Chichester Festival Theatre archive is now publically accessible for all to explore and enjoy.

Based at West Sussex Record Office (Orchard Street, Chichester), the archive is free to access and contains a whole host of ephemera relating to the history of Chichester Festival Theatre. From the original architectural plans of this radical Grade II* listed building to a whole host of production material from fifty plus years worth of exciting and popular productions. You can search the catalogue yourself here, by putting ‘CFT’ in the Catalogue Number search bar.

We’ll be sharing some of our favourite items during Explore Your Archive week via our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts; look out for the #ExploreArchives hashtag throughout the week!

From Monday 21 November there will also be a selection of reproduced archive material on display in the foyer of the Festival Theatre by The Café…so get exploring (there’s even room for little ones to play!) and come and find out more about this amazing building and our extensive archive. What will you discover?

Explore Your Archive is a joint campaign delivered by The National Archives and the Archives and Records Association across the UK and Ireland. It aims to showcase the unique potential of archives to excite people, bring communities together, and tell amazing stories.
Usually held for a week in November, the campaign showcases the phenomenal archival collections held by organisations across the UK and Ireland, whatever their size and scale, and wherever they are.
