Work has begun to renovate part of Chichester Festival Theatre’s concrete structure, which is 55 years old and has had continuous occupation and exposure to the elements. Some work was done during the RENEW project of 2012/13, but further repairs are now necessary, particularly to the cantilever front beam.
The bulk of the activity will happen during late February and March when the Theatre has no performances, but it is anticipated the works will continue until early May. Scaffolding has been erected in front of the Theatre, but the work will have no impact on audiences.
The restored concrete will have the same look and feel as when originally built (including using aggregates and flints from the same quarry areas used in 1961).
