CFT at home and away

Here's the latest round-up of news from CFT.

Last week our 2018 production of The Midnight Gang was made available to watch online for free on the CFT website. This inventive tale of fun, friendship and the importance of kindness was adapted from David Walliams's biggest selling children's book of 2016 by Bryony Lavery with music and lyrics by Joe Stilgoe, and described by the Guardian this week as ‘Funny, touching and spirited… particularly suited to lockdown viewing with kids.’ The production is available until Friday 29 May.

In 2017, our award-winning Chichester Festival Youth Theatre presented a brand new adaptation of Beauty and the Beast by Anna Ledwich (The Butterfly Lion) from the original fairy tale, with music and lyrics by Richard Taylor (Flowers for Mrs Harris). We're delighted that this production will also be available for free to watch online from Thursday 21 May.

Both productions are especially suitable for family audiences from ages 7 up. To connect with as many people as possible in our community, both productions are captioned for D/deaf and hard of hearing audiences, and have Polish-language captions. Audio introductions will help set the scene for blind and partially sighted audiences.

Last week our brilliant lighting team lent their equipment and expertise to help turn Chichester Cathedral blue in support of our front-line health workers and the NHS for the weekly #ClapForCarers. The photo below is by Daniel Smith. Our security guard Drinda also dropped off a supply of chocolate from the Theatre shop to the staff at Chichester’s St. Richard’s Hospital.

Since it was set up just under 4 weeks ago, the Chichester Scrub Hub has raised over £14,000, placing them third in the country for funds raised by Scrub Hubs. They’ve delivered 128 pairs of scrubs and 40 tunics, have another 67 being sewn with 139 orders waiting to be cut. A huge thank you to everyone who has donated, and congratulations to the team and makers for all their hard work. Visit the Facebook page for updates.

Joe Stilgoe has been treating his fans to live daily concerts from his garden shed at 1pm on YouTube. Last Friday’s episode of #StilgoeInTheShed saw him performing one of the songs he wrote for The Midnight Gang, the wonderful ‘Big, Beautiful, Life’ – listen to him singing it here

Our online broadcast of Flowers for Mrs Harris has received many wonderful comments and we’re really pleased to see how much people are enjoying this archive recording. It’s available until Friday 8 May.

This week we also celebrated #GivingTuesdayNow and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated so far to our Keep CFT Connected Appeal. Your kind messages in response to the sad announcement of the cancellation of Festival 2020 have also meant the world to us. Thank you to you all.
