We are delighted to announce that Kanaida Povey, a MA Fine Art Student at the University of Chichester, has been selected to be our 2017 Emerging Artist in Residence.
Kanaida will be granted extensive access to Chichester Festival Theatre's Props Making Department over the first three months of Festival 2017. The residency aims to help develop practical skills and knowledge to inform the artist's practice and will culminate in an exhibition in the Festival Theatre foyer later in the year.
Textile artist Kanaida explained that she is particularly excited to 'to push the boundaries of my material and my own ideas, and I think that working in a new environment, which is unlike anything I have worked in before, could help me push my work to a new level'.
This is the third annual residency at CFT, demonstrating the strong partnership between Chichester Festival Theatre and the University of Chichester’s Fine Art Department. Kanaida's residency will contribute to her MA degree; she will also support the work of the Learning, Education and Participation department (LEAP) by contributing to the Theatre’s programme of workshops and events and supporting young people taking part in the Arts Award scheme.
