About Theatre on the Fly

CELEBRATING A NEW GENERATION

As Chichester Festival Theatre celebrates 50 years of internationally renowned work, Festival 2012 looks to the future by hosting Theatre on the Fly, a temporary new space for our next generation of theatre-makers and theatre-goers.

With the support of the Heller Foundation we have trained three young directors, who now present their debut Chichester productions along with a host of other entertainments in an extraordinary theatrical space.

As well as new productions of Blue Remembered Hills, Playhouse Creatures and the world premiere of Fred’s Diner, Theatre on the Fly will house an eclectic season of late night comedy, live music and cabaret, the Youth Theatre’s  production of Noah, theatre activities for children, brand new interactive audio experiences and Anniversary readings.

We will announce even more events as the season unfolds, so whether it be test-running brand new work or hosting a last-minute gig, watch this space!

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates and new events.

COME AND ASSEMBLE

For a next generation theatre, we’ve partnered with the next generation of architects. Assemble is an outstanding team of young designers and builders who have devised a playhouse able to open up to Oaklands Park or enclose us in new worlds.

The bold design celebrates the theatrical fly tower, which beautifully exposes all the ropes, rails and pulleys that lift and lower scenery, and gives the new theatre both its name and a unique capacity for Chichester Festival Theatre.

Assemble is designing this temporary theatre in a way that will allow the community to play a crucial role.

Throughout June we invite our friends, Youth Theatre members, graduates and families, and anyone who wants to lend a hand, to take part in the creation of this spectacular structure and celebrate the local participation which has characterised Chichester Festival Theatre since its inception.

Whether you can give a day or a week, come and pick up a wheelbarrow and become part of the team this summer! Email volunteer@cft.org.uk for more information.
