Chichester Festival Theatre and the National Theatre: from stage to screen

New Park Cinema
New Park Cinema Studio
25 Aug 2012
Overview
Daniel Rosenthal draws on an intimate knowledge of National Theatre history and film to explore how early Chichester Festival Theatre productions were adapted for the screen. In a festival weekend showing films of Uncle Vanya (1963), Othello (1965) and The Royal Hunt of the Sun (1969), all based on productions staged in the 1963-64 seasons at both Chichester and the National at The Old Vic, Daniel will explore those early years, when it seemed with Olivier at the helm that Chichester and the fledgling National Theatre Company walked in each other’s steps.
Daniel Rosenthal is a film and theatre historian and lecturer, and author of 100 Shakespeare Films (2000). His book The National Theatre Story will be published in autumn 2012.
This is a partnership event for New Park Cinema’s 21st International Film Festival.
