PAUL FARNSWORTH

Biography

Paul Farnsworth trained in theatre design at Wimbledon School of Art.
 
In the West End designs include: The Cherry Orchard (Aldwych); Moby Dick (Piccadilly); Ghosts (Comedy); What a Performance (Queen’s); High Society (Shaftesbury); Scrooge (Palladium); The Letter (Wyndham’s); Whistle Down the Wind (Palace); Fallen Angels (Apollo); Follies, On Your Toes (Royal Festival Hall); A Man for All Seasons (Theatre Royal Haymarket); and the European premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s Passion (Queen’s), for which he received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Set Design.
 
For the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, he has designed: Kiss Me, Kate, Troilus and Cressida, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Lady Be Good, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, HMS Pinafore and The Boy Friend, among many others.
 
International productions include: Hay Fever, A Flea in Her Ear, My Fair Lady, Peter Pan, The Sound of Music, The Producers (Det Ny Teater, Copenhagen); Scrooge (US and Australian tours); and On Your Toes (Japanese tour).
 
Other work includes: Volpone, The Merchant of Venice (English Shakespeare Company); Hedda Gabler, A Woman of No Importance, The Crucible, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music (Leicester Haymarket); Summerfolk, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Point Valaine, The Power and the Glory, Entertaining Angels (Chichester Festival Theatre); A Warwickshire Testimony, Transit of Venues (Royal Shakespeare Company).
 
Recent projects include: Berlin Hanover Express (Hampstead); Flashdance and Doctor Dolittle (UK national tours); Victory, How the Other Half Loves, Relatively Speaking (Peter Hall Company); and Adam Cooper’s new ballet Shall We Dance at Sadler’s Wells.
