Salford, 1880: overbearing and argumentative small town shoemaker Henry Horatio Hobson believes he can inflict his every whim on the world at large, especially on his three increasingly truculent daughters.
But who wins in this spirited battle of wills - Maggie, Alice, Vickey or Hobson himself?
A heart-warming Victorian comedy and one of the great English plays of the twentieth century, Hobson’s Choice is a joyful and compelling exploration of human relationships.
Brighouse’s plays include Lonesome-Like, The Odd Man Out, The Northerners and Zack. His autobiography, What I Have Had, was published in 1953.
John Savident was a member of Laurence Olivier’s second Chichester company. His work at the National Theatre includes Saint Joan, The Beggar’s Opera and Coriolanus. He was in the original cast of The Phantom of the Opera and is widely known to television audiences as Coronation Street’s Fred Elliott.
