The Pirates of Penzance

Carl Rosa Opera is very sorry to announce that Jo Brand has had to withdraw from our forthcoming production of The Pirates of Penzance.

However we are delighted to announce that the role of the Sergeant of Police will be played by, Chichester favourite, Paul Nicholas. As the ever popular star of so many West End plays and musicals, memorable to millions as Vince in the award winning TV series ‘Just Good Friends’,  he can also be seen as Jack Point  in Carl Rosa Opera’s forthcoming new production of The Yeomen of the Guard at the Tower of London in September.

Orphaned pirates, flat-footed policemen and a bevy of blushing beauties (the daughters of Major General Stanley) are the perfect ingredients for a fabulous feast of Gilbert & Sullivan. Elegantly recreating the original period settings and costumes, this acclaimed production combines Sullivan’s ever-popular and sparkling score with what has to be the most topsy-turvy of all Gilbert’s plots. Venture with us into the swashbuckling world of Frederic the pirate apprentice, who – born on February 29th in a leap year – won’t ‘come of age’ until he is 84!
