‘The partnership of Rodgers & Hammerstein has not yet been equalled; it probably never will be. As collaborators, they created musical theatre that enchanted audiences and redefined the art form.’
Andrew Lloyd Webber
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! is more than a musical - it is a landmark of American history, a cultural phenomenon. With its perfectly integrated music, lyrics, characters and story, from the moment the opening bars of ‘Oh what a beautiful mornin’, oh what a beautiful day’ soar across the theatre, its audience is drawn irresistibly into the world of one of the most loved musical romances of all time.
Joyous and bursting with vitality, it tells the captivating story of Oklahoma farm girl, Laurey, forced to choose between Curly, the happy-go-lucky cowboy she loves, and Judd, the mysterious loner she fears.
With a ravishing score including The Surrey With The Fringe On Top, People Will Say We’re In Love, Oh What A Beautiful Mornin’ and, of course, the roof-raising Oklahoma!, this is musical making by masters.
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musicals include Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music.
John Doyle’s recent productions include Sweeney Todd, for which he won a Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical, at the Watermill Theatre, in the West End and on Broadway; Company at Cincinnati Playhouse and on Broadway where the production won a Tony Award for Best Musical; A Catered Affair on Broadway and Road Show at the Public Theatre, New York. Most recently John has directed a feature film in the US with Ellen Burstyn, Colin Firth, Orlando Bloom and Patricia Clarkson.
Presented by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Limited on behalf of R&H Theatricals of New York.
